Robert Lon Bowers, 83 of Springfield, Missouri passed away September 14, 2015 in Manor Care of Springfield.

Robert, son of Earl and Frieda (Wieland) Bowers was born September 19, 1931. Bob as his friends called him, grew up on College Street in Springfield, attending the old Gulf (Study) Elementary and Central High School. In the 50's he served his country in the Missouri National Guard. The Bowers family enjoyed many years as charter members of the College Street Baptist Church.

Preceding Robert in death were his parents, a daughter Mary Robin Bowers who lived one day, as well as beloved aunts and uncles within the Bowers, Wieland, and Reynolds families.

The Bowers family owned and operated Bowers Furniture Company at 1833 W. College Street as Route 66 became the popular thoroughfare passing in front of Bob''s childhood home and business. Eventually Bob left the family business to become a "baker" at Holsum Bread Company, assuming the nickname "Baker".

Bob was known for his passion of the City of Springfield, fire engines, and trains. He collected everything from Cracker Jack toys to keys to Norman Rockwell figurines and postcards. Photography was a hobby he pursued especially with trains. His remarkable diligence and consistency of "collecting" leaves a hobbyist/historian''s view of a city he saw - emerge.

Bob is survived by the late May Burnham family, Aaron Withers and many friends.

Visitation will be held at the Eastlawn Funeral Home on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 10 to 11 a.m. with a Graveside service in the Eastlawn Cemetery at 11 a.m.
