IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Big Jim
Eugene Breese
October 23, 1929 – September 16, 2023
James Eugene "Big Jim" Breese, 93, departed from this life on Saturday, September 16, 2023 leaving behind a legacy filled with love, laughter and a treasure trove of stories. He was born on Wednesday, October 23, 1929 in Springfield, MO to William Herbert Breese and Agnes (Hampton) Breese.
Big Jim was the kind of man who'd chuckle while saying, "I did pretty well for a tenth-grade dropout." And he did. From his humble beginnings, he carved out a successful career, becoming an expert pipeline welder and later co-owning SOMO Contracting with his son. He married the love of his life, Joan Kay Smith, on June 1, 1949, and they built a rich life together, welcoming three children, Angela, Sherrie, and James, who further blessed them with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. With a soft spot for his Lincoln, homemade ice cream, and his motorhome, Big Jim was a storyteller at heart. His tales often took us back to his childhood adventures, from camping on the White River to life during the war. His grandkids will always cherish the memories of grandpa napping through every national park, grilling hamburgers in the driveway, and eating Grandpa's Eggo waffles, which were always drowning in syrup and butter. As we bid farewell to Big Jim, we hold tight to the laughter, the stories, and the simple joys of root beer floats enjoyed in good company. Here's to one more motorhome trip, Big Jim. You will be missed, but not forgotten.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Wilma, Junior and Dot.
He is survived by his wife, three children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
